Extreme System Workout and Fine-tune Burn-In CD
The title is a mouthful, but when you check what's on the disc you'll agree it deserves more than a one-word title. The tones, from a Tektronix ultra-low distortion tone generator, can give your system or any component the workout needed. After the reference tone, there are sweep tones, white noise and pink noise bands. And there are three sections of four bands each to burn-in your system in the bass frequencies, the midrange, and the treble. Burning in speakers? Run the disc full range when you're not there, then switch to the treble range at night, so it won't keep you awake. From Granite Audio.

Phono Burn-In & RIAA Test CD
Got a phono preamp, or an amp with a phono section? So how do you break it in, short of playing deejay for the next 50 or 100 hours? This CD is the answer. Its signals are recorded on a CD at low level, with an inverse RIAA equalization applied. Just connect a CD player to the phono input, and put this CD in repeat mode. Separate sections for MM and MC inputs. Put an output meter on the amp, and see whether the equalization curve of your phono section is accurate.

The Ultimate Test CD
This disc includes spot frequencies, pink noise, channel and phase identification, plus a number of special music tracks (cymbal, bass drum, etc.) for performance evaluation. There are also surround sound level tests (for Dolby Surround and ProLogic).

Vinyl Essentials
This German-made test LP is a welcome replacement for the old Shure Audio Obstacle Course, which was once included with the company's top phono cartridges. It includes tracks for checking the resonant frequency of a cartridge/tone arm combination, and it also has tracks for judging a cartridge's ability to navigate highly-modulated passages. Other tracks are for channel identification, checking phase, and measuring crosstalk. We're glad to have it, because it's an indispensable tool.
